Giving Back

Today, in the grocery store parking lot, my 4yr old son L asked what War was. While explaining what war was, it occurred to me that L had no idea that our own country is in war right now. My husband J and I had never thought to talk about it with him.  Because L doesn’t experience war around us, he had no idea that people are risking their life, right now,  so that a majority of America, including our family, can live a life full of freedom and privileges. Privileges to include the ability to forget we are at war. That's huge!

To bring awareness and give thanks to our military members I thought it would be nice for the family to write a letter expressing our gratitude for all that they have give and give up.

Like Kanye West and his father, who strive to bring attention to the need for access to clean water, L , J  and I are going to strive to bring attention to supporting the military by actively giving thanks.

If you're interested in sending a thank you letter to a military member, click here for more details: http://www.amillionthanks.org/

Not a writer? That's ok, you can send a care package instead. Visit: http://www.uso.org/Programs/Operation-USO-Care-Package/Operation-USO-Care-Package.aaspx

Hey Mamma!

Photo by Sarah Danaher of Ampersand Photography

Hey Momma, thank you for showing me what it means to be a good person. Thank you for loving me even though I drive you crazy sometimes most of the time. Thank you for believing in me and standing by me thru thick and thin. Thank you for teaching me how to save money. Thank you for showing me how to make a home feel homey, how to care for those who are under privileged, and how to respect myself. Thank you for supporting my creative aspirations and for introducing art to me as a little girl. Most of all mom, thank you for teaching me how to be a good mother. I love you :-D

Inspired by the word(s) of the week: Kanye West and his song "Hey Momma" You can listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtpKqMpqGU0

My brother's a funny one. He gave me Kanye West for this weeks challenge. It was a tough one but I pulled through and came up with some ideas. I hope you like them :)

Unicorn #2: Random Tyler Knott Fact:

Unicorns.

I believe in Unicorns, and they are my 3rd favorite animal.  Yes they exist.  If whales can have horns, so can horses.  Believe it.  Right?

Tyler Knott is an AMAZING poet. The photo above is from a poetry series created with a typewriter on found paper. My heart melts and I become one with the earth when I read his words. You can read more work here: http://tylerknott.com/

The Challenge: Unicorn

Photo From http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/e5a7/

So, last week I was venting to my brother about how I know I can do what I want to do if only I got off my tookus and did something about it. I have the plans all laid out but resist taking the first step for who knows why. My brother’s living his dream as a full time blogger bringing in the big bucks so I thought he would have some good advice.

We decided that he would be my “pusher”. Instead of asking me what I’ve done each week, he’s going to give me a word to work from. My challenge is to create or find at least one thing that’s related to that word to move me one step closer to my life goals.  So, what word did I get for this week? UNICORN. Yup…unicorn :)

Well...here we go!!
